Dog Digging Under the Fence?

Nothing can be more frustrating for an owner then to
have your dog digging under the fence. Not only does this
ruin your yard and fence, but it can also be dangerous for your
dog. Some dogs crawl under the fence and escape. This may lead
to your dog being stolen, or worse, like being hit by a
car.
Because of all these negative consequences it's a very
important that you put a stop to your dog getting under the
fence as soon as possible.
1. Figure Out Why
First of all, issued trying to figure out why your dog is
doing this in the first place. If your dog is not neutered or
spayed, maybe they're trying to escape so they can mate. If
this is the case you may want to look into getting them spayed
or neutered.
2. Prevent Boredom
Second of all, many dogs try and dig under the fence simply
because they are bored. Look around your yard and try and place
more toys and activities for your dog to do. If your yard is
small, consider taking your dog for more walks around the
neighborhood to expand some of that mischievous energy.
3. Offer Alternatives
Third, some breeds of dogs just like to dig a lot more than
others. If you think that your dog is one of these, let it dig
in a designated are or even a sandbox. Offering an alternative
to fence digging is often the best solution.
Lastly, if you're a truly unable to control your dog, you may
want to think about putting in a stronger fence. Look into a
fence that actually begins below ground. These are a little bit
more expensive, but can save you the worry of having your dog
possibly escape. In extreme cases you may just want to
think about having your dog tethered so it is unable to reach
the fence in the first place.
