German Shepherd Puppy Training

Before you start doing German Shepherd puppy
training, it is important that you learn all about the
background of this breed, and what you can expect from their
personality and behavior. Doing a little background research
can really save you a lot of time and frustration when it comes
to dog training.
Originally these dogs are from the 1800's and were bred for
a wide variety of purposes. These dogs belong to the American
Kennel Club (AKC) Working Class, and tend to be very faithful
companions. Because of this, German Shepherds were the first
guide dogs for the blind. In fact this is one of the world's
true multipurpose dog breeds that can be used for almost any
situation.
German Shepherd puppy training tends to be much easier then
when dealing with other breeds, because these dogs are very
intelligent and tend to learn very quickly. This is the exact
opposite of some other dog breeds like the Beagle or Dachshund
which can be a little bit more stubborn and difficult to
teach.
While some people may have a negative view of German
Shepherds as aggressive dogs, they are also very sociable, and
love to be with people and other dogs.
Because of their large size and energetic nature, they love
to have lots of things to do, and do not handle being locked up
in small apartments or homes all day. This bottling up
can turn some dogs into TNT, they are just waiting to explode
and expend their pent up energy!
Socialization
German Shepherd puppy training should include a large amount
of socialization with people and other animals at a very young
age. This is extremely important and should not be
overlooked.
Now is the time to mold your dog into accepting other people
and other pets as well. As he gets older, they tend to be more
unaccepting of strangers and strange pets, which is why you
need to be socialized early.
Even though these can be strong and energetic dogs, you
should still use a lot of patience when training them. Most
dogs respond best when it comes to positive dog training.
Adopting
If you are thinking about adopting or buying a German
Shepherd puppy, you try and get them right after they are
weaned from their mother. This allows you to have a large
amount of time training them and having them get used to you as
their master. Training younger dogs is much easier than
training older dogs although it can be done.
