Keep Your Dog From Jumping

Dog jumping problems is a very common thing that many owners
have to deal with it. Unfortunately many people actually
unknowingly reward this behavior, which is the exact opposite
thing that you must do.
Dog jumping often starts off innocently enough, your
dog might raise its paw and put it on your leg in order to get
attention. Then your puppy might jump up on your knees
and demanded to be hugged.
In each of these situations most owners respond by giving
your dog a treat, petting them, or picking them out. This leads
to positive reinforcements which will not keep your dog from
jumping.
Habit Formation
Most people know that habits are very hard to break, which
is the same when it comes to dogs. For this reason you need to
train your puppy while they're still young that jumping is
completely inappropriate.
"OFF" Command
As an early age you should teach your dog the "off" command.
And you should also have your children teach the dog the "off"
command as well. This is because dogs, especially puppies, love
to jump up on small children.
While this might be cute when the puppy is small, when the
dog gets bigger, they can actually do physical harm, and may
even break the skin if they use claws.
Why Dogs Jump
In order to better keep your dog from jumping, is important
to know why they want to jump in the first place at all. Many
dogs often tend to jump because they're excited because they're
going to get fed soon, or that you have something else that it
you're going to give them, like a dog treat.
It may also jump up and down because they want to go for a
walk after you had just come home from a long day of work.
Teach Alternatives
Because you should display dominance of your dog at all
times, you should never let them jump up on you. Instead of
having them jump up on you, you should instead teach them some
alternative behavior.
Many dog trainers simply say that when a dog jumps upon you
that you should simply ignore them and give them no attention.
But I think you should give your dog and alternative
behavior.
Some suggestions for this alternative behavior could be just
teaching them how to sit, or showing them how to roll over.
Many dogs would gladly just rollover back and forth when
they're excited as soon as jump up on you. So why not enforce
the rolling over versus the jumping up?
Summary
So if you want to know how to keep your dog from jumping up
on you, simply stop rewarding this behavior, and teach them a
new and better way to behave.
