Labrador Puppy Training

When it comes to Labrador puppy training you'll find that it
is actually much easier than training other breeds of dogs.
This is because labradors are known for their intelligence and
friendly nature.
Training these types of dogs can be so much fun and if you
do train them while they're still puppies, the bond that you
build between you will last a lifetime.
Brief History
Before we get into Labrador puppy training it is important
to touch briefly on their history so you have a better
understanding of what to expect when working with them.
These dogs were originally developed in Newfoundland, and
were used by fishermen to retrieve fishing nets and loose fish.
This explains why they love to swim so much and why they are so
good at it.
Also the breed itself has been around for many years. In
fact it is one of the oldest recognized dog breeds in the
world!
Size
These dogs are very athletic and the male Labrador retriever
can grow almost up to 25 inches tall at the shoulders. As for
height, the largest ones can weigh up to 80 pounds.
There are actually two different types of Labrador
retriever. These two types are the English and the American,
but there are also three different colors, yellow, chocolate,
and black.
Health
The major health problem when it comes to Labrador
retrievers is obesity. While they are prone to hip and elbow
dysplasia, nowadays, just like with humans, obesity is their
main health issue.
Temperament
These dogs are very mild mannered and are very easy to get
along with. In fact they make the perfect family dog as long as
you give them proper puppy socialization and training.
Labrador Puppy Training
When it comes to Labrador puppy training it is important
that you emphasize positive rewards. And even though these dogs
are very easy to train, you have to remember to have a lot of
patience.
These dogs respond best when you use reward-based training
methods.
When you first get your puppy, the first thing you should do
is to teach them potty training. And then, after they've
mastered potty training, you should start teaching them some
basic commands.
One of them most common things that people overlook when it
comes to Labrador puppy training is socialization. When puppies
are young is the best time to get them socialized to being
around people, children, and other pets.
Dogs that lack early socialization are more prone to
behavioral problems like aggression, biting, and chewing.
