Small Dog Training

Many people think that small dog training is much more
difficult then trying to train medium or larger breeds of
dogs. But I do not think this is accurate and this is a very
common misconception.
Small dog training is done in exactly the same way as any
other size of dog. Even though some of the smaller dogs may
have some peculiarities, they are basically a miniature dog, if
you will.
2 Main Differences
Even though I'm saying the training is no different, there
are actually two small differences, but vital ones you need to
be aware of. One of them is when it comes to aggression, and
the other one is when it comes to puppy potty
training.
Small Dog Aggression
For some reason small dogs always seem to be more aggressive
than their larger counterparts. One probable reason for this,
is that owners of small dogs tend to pamper these dogs more,
and so these dogs think they are the alpha dog.
And when small dogs think they are the alpha dog in the
house, they will growl, bark, and bite you until you comply
with what they want.
If fact, with any dog, no matter the size, if you allow them
to be the alpha dog, they will be more aggressive with you. But
people often allow small dogs to be the alpha dog in the house,
because they tend to be so cute.
Puppy Potty Training
Because the small dogs are so cute, many owners love to
carry these dog around with them in special purses or on their
arm.
Because of this it is a real impedance to proper
housebreaking. These dogs never really get into a routine of
proper elimination.
Because of this, it can take a much longer time in order to
properly housebreak small dogs.
Summary
So in summary, if you are going to be undertaking
small dog training it is very important that
you establish yourself as the alpha dog in the house to prevent
excessive aggression.
