2.  Negative Reward

Many dog owners unknowingly give their dog positive attention for biting. Because of this the dogs tend to bite more frequently which is not what we want.

Whenever your dog does unwanted behavior it has to be clear that there is a negative reward. This could be being locked up in the crate, locked outside, or simply being ignored.

3.  Firm Commands

Many dogs will bite to show dominance. In order to get over this situation, you have to show your dog that you are the alpha dog. In order to do this you need to follow through on every command that you give your dog. Your dog needs to understand that when you give a command it has to be followed.

4.  Controlled Feeding

Another way to show your dominance or your dog is to make sure you only feed them when you want to. Give the dog access to food for only a set certain amount of time and then remove the food bowl. This sends a clear signal to the dog that you are in charge of when your dog will have access to food and not them.

5.  Avoid Bedroom

Another way to curtail dog biting is to not allow them to sleep in the bedroom or on the bed with you. You should have certain off-limits areas for your dog in order to ensure your alpha status.

6.  Avoid Biting Games

Sometimes dogs learn to bite because children or adults wrestle with the dogs and play tug-of-war with the dogs. You should never teach your dog to bite anything near your hands or ever wrestle with you.

7.  Fear Biting

Lastly, some dogs bite out of fear. If you think your dog might be your biting because it is placed in a new and stressful situation, try to find ways to make your dog feel more at ease. This could be bringing in things that smell like a dog, like your dog's old bed or blanket.
